John Ashton lives and works in the small South Hams village of Aveton Gifford on the beautiful estuary of the River Avon. Born in Somerset, he worked mainly as a lighting roadie for some of the
world's major bands. In 1985 he moved to Modbury in South Devon. Since then
he has been a successful artist taking on many commissions including murals, sign writing and pub signs. In 2006 he decided to concentrate on oil painting and since then he has had
successful exhibitions around the South West.
John's skill is wide and diverse, and he has a truly mesmerising talent of capturing the
true essence of his subject. He is able to reflect the unique, haunting interpretation of light that enables the viewer to
'reach out and touch' the image.
John’s inspiration comes from the birds on the waters of the Avon Estuary and the animals involved in country life. He paints predominantly in oils on canvas and is now producing his work as signed limited edition giclee prints. His favourite subjects are birds, horses and hounds.
John is also available for animal portraits and
you will find examples of his work in the Commissions
gallery. Please contact
him as he will happily discuss your requirements with you.
