John Ashton lives and works in the small South Hams village of Aveton Gifford on the beautiful estuary of the River Avon. Born in Somerset, he worked mainly as a lighting roadie for some of the
world's major bands. In 1985 he took up a post as a graphic artist in Modbury in South Devon. Since then
John has been a jobbing artist taking on many commissions including murals, sign writing and pub signs. In 2006 he decided to concentrate on oil painting and since then he has had several successful exhibitions.
John's skill is wide and diverse and he has a truly mesmerising talent of capturing the
true essence of his subject. He is able to reflect the unique, haunting interpretation of light that enables the viewer to
'reach out and touch' the image.
