About

John was born in Somerset and grew up in Brockley Coombe, where he developed a passion for wildlife and especially birds. He attended Nailsea Grammar School where he and his pal taught themselves taxidermy and set up a natural history business called “Ashton & Sheppy”.

After a frenetic and varied career, which included working with some of the world’s major rock-groups, he settled in South Devon to further his lifelong vocation for oil painting. He now lives and works on the beautiful Avon Estuary.

John’s wildlife paintings have been exhibited nationally and he is a regular finalist of the “David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year” award. He is also a prolific writer on the subject of ornithology.

Paintings are also available as high quality framed or unframed Giclee prints in bespoke sizes on canvas or paper.
